![]() The meeting ends when Chairman Stahl storms out following heated argument with Admiral Orlock on the matter of Visari's succession. Six months later, the Helghan senate meets to discuss their disappointment at the continued guerrilla resistance being put up by the stranded ISA troops, whom the Helghast have failed to seek out and destroy. ![]() With the ISA fleet heading home, Narville, Sev, Rico, Jammer and a handful of other surviving troops are marooned on Helghan. However, by the time they return to the pick-up site, they are too late, and can only watch as the final ISA ships depart the planet without them. Upon reaching the extraction site, Sev and Rico disobey Narville's orders and proceed to rescue Jammer and her squad from heavy Helghast resistance. Forced to fight their way out alone, they encounter heavy resistance as they pass through Helghast museums and other cultural centers in a city that is now a nuclear waste land. ![]() They head for the mushroom cloud at the center of the city, where the few remaining ISA ships are gathering to extract their decimated ground forces, but Sev and Rico become separated from the rest of the convoy. Following the death of Autarch Visari and the launch of a devastating Helghast counter-attack, Tomas "Sev" Sevchenko and Rico regroup with Captain Narville outside Visari Palace and make plans to evacuate Pyrrhus. The story begins immediately after the conclusion of the previous game. As a surviving member of the Special Forces unit Alpha Squad, you must fight your way across the unforgiving planet, against a vindictive, merciless enemy, in a desperate attempt to escape Helghan alive." ―Game description You are Tomas ‘Sev’ Sevchenko, part of the remaining ISA forces on Helghan. As new Helghast battalions appear, armed with more powerful weapons, ISA forces find themselves outmanned, outgunned and surrounded. Helghast forces have mounted a devastating counter-attack, prompting the ISA evacuation of planet Helghan. Definitely a worthy follow-up." Visari is gone, but the war is far from over. And the climax and ending are both very well done, creating a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. And improved is the gameplay, which goes for a more streamlined approach, able to challenge those that want a challenge but also notably easier for those that don't play console FPS titles, such as myself. Frankly I found this to be the single bridge too far in terms of an otherwise solid story. This isn't the case initially, but then suddenly the story jumps ahead a few months, where the heroes, an army of over 100 survivors, have actually managed to hide away on the enemy's homeworld. The story also flows with an increased nuance from before, with stronger characters than in past entries – if there's one really serious problem with the story, it would be that there is a lot less urgency than in the previous story, despite the chips being down the entire time. The new villain is more nuanced and less obviously evil, which actually makes him scarier in some ways as he clearly has a combination drive for power and a serious screw-loose in terms of sanity. However, in the end, it is arguably even better, capping the trilogy on its finest entry. I mention this to explain that this game, following up a game I was shocked as to how much I did like, starts off very much on the wrong foot. 5h 53m PlayedKillzone 3 was released a few years after Killzone 2, but contains lower quality single-player graphics and a substantially weaker opening segment.
